About Carmel
Carmel is located in southeastern Putnam County, and is a hub of business and government activities, offering many conveniences, such as adequate shopping, fine dining and family restaurants, upscale recreational facilities and preserved open space. It is dotted with many lakes and parks with one third of its acreage open space. The Town of Carmel encompasses the three hamlets of Carmel, Mahopac and Mahopac Falls, with the hamlet of Carmel serving as the Putnam County seat of government and the hamlet of Mahopac as home for the offices of the Town of Carmel.
Mahopac and Mahopac Falls are situated on the southern shore of picturesque Lake Mahopac, the site of summer resorts in the 100s and early 1900s. Carmel is located on the northeastern shore of Lake Gleneida and is exceptionally scenic, with steepled churches and Victorian homes scattered along the tree-lined shore.
Carmel schools are highly rated and have a student/teacher ration of 14/1 with an average class size of 21. Eighty-nine percent of seniors take the SATs with 88% going on to college.
Carmel is rich in history and in scenic beauty, and is great place to work, live and raise a family.
Transportation
The Mahopacs and Carmel are accessible from route 6, Interstates 84 and 684 and the Taconic State Parkway. They are served by the Metro North Railroad at Croton Falls, only 5 minutes from downtown.
